This film can be interpreted many (or at least a couple) different ways. For me though, it came from the fundamental problem I have with dying. More specifically, I wanted to show the inherent tragedy of a young man who unwittingly lets a fear of death completely derail his barely-lived life. But instead of a living person realizing his mortality, I made it a movie character who can see the cruel limited nature of his movie, continuity errors and all. He then obsesses over that unavoidable last frame and loses sight of what's really important amidst bizarre plot turns and unsatisfying pacing issues, which I think is pretty much like real life. The conclusion it comes to is that one should simply strive to make their movie good, and let the ending come whenever the hell it wants. Because, let's face it. Every movie's gotta end.
Like, film stock is really expensive.
Cheers,
Diego
